Ahava Memorials: Turning ashes into art
A Story Rooted in Love
Ahava Memorials began with something deeply personal.
After the passing of a beloved family member, founder Dan Hoffman created a ceramic piece that incorporated her ashes—transforming grief into something tangible, beautiful, and lasting. What started as a personal act of remembrance became the foundation for Ahava, a name that means love in Hebrew.
That idea—honoring loved ones through art—continues to guide everything we create.
A New Kind of Memorial
As featured on Localish, Ahava offers a meaningful alternative to traditional urns.
Each piece is handcrafted ceramic, infused with cremation ash through a proprietary glaze process developed over the course of a year. The result is something entirely unique—no two pieces are ever the same.
Rather than something tucked away, these works are designed to live in your home:
-
A vase that holds fresh flowers
-
A sculptural object on a shelf
-
A piece of art that invites conversation and remembrance
As Dan shared in the segment, it becomes “a work of art in your home versus… the typical box.”

Where Craft Meets Memory
Ahava currently offers multiple glaze finishes and forms, along with custom commissions for both people and beloved pets. Every piece is made with intention—balancing technical precision with emotional sensitivity.
What makes this work especially meaningful is the way the material itself responds: when ash is introduced into the glaze, it creates natural movement, variation, and depth. In many ways, the final piece becomes a collaboration between artist, material, and memory.
Grateful for the Spotlight
Being featured on Localish is more than just media coverage—it’s an opportunity to share this idea with a wider community:
That remembrance can be beautiful.
That grief can take form.
And that love can live on in the objects we keep close.
We’re incredibly grateful to the 6ABC team for telling this story and helping more families discover an alternative way to honor their loved ones.
